Summary

Jean Piaget is introduced here as a person who like Freud ""has created a new discipline which, while closely aligned to psychology, nonetheless goes beyond it in its implications for and interaction with other scientific disciplines."" It is termed ""genetic epistemology,"" in which logic plays a central role and the problem is ""to discover the psychological structures that underlie the formation of concepts fundamental to science."" Thus oriented, Dr. Piaget presents six psychological studies concerning the mental development of the child, the thought of the young child, language and thought from the genetic point of view, the role of the concept of equilibrium in psychological explication, problems in genetic psychology, and genesis and structure in the psychology of intelligence. Definitely for a professional readership..
