As a consequence of plural-language-environments, national languages and languages in schools and education, bi- and multilingualism has become normality worldwide.
In German schools a “culture of multilingualism” is gradually established. The contact and the access to more languages offer teachers and pupils / students manifold chances to teach and learn.
The articles in this book refer to multilingualism on different levels of age and class – from pre-school to secondary school (Sekundarstufe I). The book includes both linguistic basic knowledge on multilingualism and didactics of (early) multilingualism – speech and writing, literacy as well as the development of language awareness in regard of the early foreign language acquisition / German as a second language. Moreover also the role of trainers / teachers in an intercultural context is reflected.
